DU Portfolio Community
History
The University of Denver Portfolio Community (DUPC) is a fully developed web-based application that supports the academic community with a searchable database of electronic portfolios for students, faculty, staff and alumni, community discussion, academic program assessment based on student work, and an assessment rubric library.
While other colleges and universities have developed and used electronic portfolios for assessing the individual student, DUPC is a multi-purpose application that greatly expands on this function.
DUPC grew from a project initiated by faculty and students in the School of Communication at the University of Denver (DU) with funding from the Sturm Family Foundation obtained by DU’s Center for Teaching & Learning (CTL).
As other academic units expressed interest in using DUPC for their students and faculty, the project moved to the CTL and the technical development was accomplished through collaboration between the CTL technical staff and Statera Inc, a computer consulting company in Denver, CO. Throughout the development period, a faculty committee met with the technical team to provide necessary academic direction.
Platforms
DUPC is primarily a Java-based web application running on Apache Tomcat with an Oracle database. There are many other servers and applications that DUPC can tap into including internal document parsing engines, search indexes, and a connection to Flash Media Server.
