Millennials Part II: What the Students Say

Monday, April 27, 2009, 3:00 - 4:00 PM
CTL Classroom (Nagel Hall Room 102)

Today's 21st century students have characteristics and learning styles unlike the generations before them.
There is a lot of hype around the concept of "millennial" students, and last year's CTL Coffee Break on this
topic drew considerable interest from across campus. In this follow-up Coffee Break, we will hear from the
students themselves. Join us for a panel discussion with some DU Millennials about the realities of 21st century students and their views towards education and learning.

Please send any questions for the panel to Bridget Arend by April 24.

For information, handouts and resources from last year's "Teaching Millennial Students" Coffee Break, our Coffee Break Portfolio.

For more information or suggestions for future CTL Coffee Breaks, contact Bridget Arend.

Distance Learning at DU

Friday, January 30, 2009 - 9:30-11:00 am
CTL Classroom

The purpose of this coffee break is to give instructors and staff who are involved in online/distance learning at DU a chance to share lessons learned and network with people outside of their department. This session will also provide an opportunity for those who may be thinking about offering a distance learning program or class, a chance to learn more about distance learning at DU.

Blogs for teaching and scholarship

Friday, February 13, 2009 - 10:00-11:30 am
CTL Classroom (Nagel Hall room 102)

Can blogs be more than a forum for personal agendas? Can they be an effective teaching tool? Can blogs promote professional research and scholarship?

Come see how your colleagues are using blogs at DU!

Lynn Clark, Associate Professor of Journalism and Director of the Estlow Center, will talk about how she uses blogs for teaching and learning at DU. Visit one of her blogs: Global Students Online.

Scott Howard, Associate Professor of English and Director of Graduate Studies, will share how he uses blogs for publishing online, peer-reviewed journals. His electronic journals include APPOSITIONS, RECONFIGURATIONS, and Reconstruction.

Jay Brown, a faculty member at the Sturm College of Law, will talk about his experiences with The Race to the Bottom (www.theracetothebottom.org), the first law blog that is a collaboration of students and faculty.
